JIMMY Lowes vowed to battle on as Bulls boss after his side slumped to an “unacceptable” 46-28 home defeat at the hands of Sheffield.

The Eagles bagged their first win at Odsal since August 1998 in a defeat which had supporters marching out of the ground long before the final hooter.

Lowes said: “The players are at a very fragile point and at the moment I’m not doing them justice in giving them self-belief and confidence in themselves.

“I’ve got to find a way pretty quick or else in the not too distant future I’ll be a spectator rather than a coach.

“We started off pretty well but we made a couple of mistakes and that’s hurting us at the moment.

“I’ve got to find a way of helping the boys through those sticky patches.

“I’ll take full responsibility for that result but I want to turn this around, of course I do.”

The legendary former hooker refused to point the finger at his players and insisted he had still confidence in them.

“I’ve got 100 per cent confidence in the players,” said Lowes.

“I need to help them more and I’m not doing that at the moment.

“Do I feel the pressure? Of course. It’s a results-based business and to lose that game by that scoreline was unacceptable.

“I thought the fans were great but I’d understand if they weren’t behind me.

“They’re obviously very disappointed but there is nobody more disappointed than the boys.”

Lowes chatted with chairman Marc Green after the game and their relationship remains strong.

“He’s fine with me,” confirmed Lowes.

“But there will come a point when I’ll know. I’m not an overly-dumb bloke and I’ll understand that if it eases the responsibility on Marc.

“He’ll make the right decisions for the club and I’ll 100 per cent get behind that.”

The Bulls led 12-0 early on after Danny Addy and Lee Gaskell touched down but shipped three tries to trail 18-12 at the break.

The Eagles ran in five more scores in the second half to ensure late efforts from James Clare and Kris Welham were mere consolation.
