FORMER Bulls hooker Wayne Godwin is aiming for a career in coaching after taking his first steps on the ladder at Dewsbury.

The Rams captain is preparing for his second season with Glenn Morrison’s part-time team after his first year was cut short by injury.

Godwin has also joined head coach Morrison and assistant coach Damien Gibson as the third member of Dewsbury’s first-team coaching staff.

The 32-year-old said: “I’m still loving playing and can’t wait to get back on the field but coaching is something I want to do when my career is over.

“I’m lucky to have been given the opportunity by Glenn Morrison and Damian Gibson to learn my trade as a coach.”

There are several ex-Bulls in the Rams' squad, including Karl Pryce, Jobe Murphy and Sam Wood, and Godwin is confident they can make their mark next season.

He added: “Every game is going to be good – I love playing in the Championship because there are no easy games.

“I can’t wait to get going. It’s going to be a tough year and that’s why Glenn is building a good squad.

“All the lads are really enjoying it and one of the games I’m looking forward to is Bradford away.

“I’m looking forward to playing at Odsal again – it’s a great place to play.

“It would be a tough ask but hopefully we can get the win over them when we go there.”

The hooker also credited the positive way the new club’s new signings have settled into their new surroundings.

“All the new lads have settled in well,” said Godwin.

“We’re training well and we’re doing a lot of conditioning as well as working hard on the tactical side of our game – we’re being well coached and we feel prepared.

“Being a part-time player you have to love the game. The lads are working in the day and coming to training in the evenings so you must enjoy it or you wouldn’t play."
