BRADFORD City Women’s penultimate game at home ended in a 2-0 loss against promotion challengers Liverpool Feds.

The game took a slow start as neither team seemed to get a shot on target for the first 10 minutes of play.

City’s defence made great use of their offside trap, keeping Feds at bay.

They finally broke through 12 minutes in forcing two great saves from goalkeeper Skye Kirkham.

Captain Katy Woodcock and her defence managed to keep the tough side at bay for most of the game, but Feds’ Paige Cole received the ball from her team-mate, but just hit the ball wide of goal, much to Bradford’s relief.

City got their first real chance on 35 minutes as Emma Elliot snuck through Feds defence, she smashed the ball, but Feds keeper Rach Darbyshire made a comfortable save.

From there, the Bantams turned up the heat for the rest of the first half, with Monika Stube and Elliot leading the charge.

Amy Beck tried to worm her way to the box but on her run, her shoe was just clipped causing it to slip off.

Sophie Hawkins made a last-ditch attempt to score, but the ball is tackled off her before she can, leaving both teams goalless in the first half.

With promotion on the line for Feds, they pressured early in the first half. 55 minutes in they were awarded a corner, City’s Charlotte Stuart managed to head it out, but the ball was quickly passed by Feds up to Rosie Kinvig, who got the first goal for Feds.

The Bantams tried to retaliate with a corner ball, which landed at Stuart’s feat, but her shot soared over the bar.

On 72 minutes, they broke through City’s defence. The ball reached Feds’ Beth Donoghue who slotted the ball past Kirkham’s fingers and into the net.

Not deterred by Feds’ lead, they race the ball up the pitch after a Liverpool free-kick and the ball reached substitute Jess Hayes. Not knowing she had time, she quickly lobbed the ball, but it soared well over the net.

City managed to hold off the Fed army for the remainder of the game, where the ref blew his whistle for full time.

The City Under-23s also sparred with Liverpool Feds’ reserve team. Despite leading in the first half with a goal from Hannah Markey, Feds clawed it back for a 2-1 win.

The ladies look to improve next weekend with the firsts on the road at Durham Cestria. The U23s host Leeds United on Easter Sunday.
