STUART McCall will meet with a potential recruitment manager today in a bid to try to salvage City’s season.

The Bantams are looking to make an immediate appointment to bring in external help to plot a potentially pivotal January transfer window.

Contrary to rumours, the Telegraph & Argus understands that the individual in question is not former boss Paul Jewell or Greg Abbott.

But it is an experienced operator in recruitment with the aim of setting up a scouting network to improve an area that will be critical in getting City out of their current mess.

Saturday’s Valley Parade defeat to Carlisle was the fifth in a row for McCall’s sinking side – who have now dropped into the League Two relegation zone.

They failed to register a single shot on target and are now below Stevenage on goal difference second from bottom.

It is a desperate situation for McCall, who at least has a free week building up to another crunch game at Oldham on Saturday.

Chief executive Ryan Sparks confirmed to the T&A that money will be made available to sign players when the window reopens. It is believed that City could still have up to a fifth of the £1.5 million salary cap unused.

McCall is hoping that bringing in another body can aid the hunt for much-needed reinforcements.

“We’ve got a big meeting with a potential head of recruitment,” he said. “It’s somebody that maybe can help us out in that area which we haven’t got at the football club right now.

“In the last couple of days, I’ve sent out details to maybe 40 agents about the areas that we need strengthening. Most people inside the game will know that.

“There’s money in there, as Ryan said, to bolster the group.

“It’s a mixture of that and getting a couple of lads back from injury as well - most of them missing are middle to front players, Gareth Evans, Billy Clarke, Kurtis Guthrie, Lee Novak and Zeli Ismail.

“Even if you had those five lads on the bench, you’d be thinking, ‘put a couple of these on and we’ve got a chance of pulling a goal back’.

“But that’s where we are and we’ve got to accept that.”

McCall is hopeful to have more options as his disposal for the trip to Boundary Park as the pressure mounts. City have scored only once from open play during their current slump.

“No disrespect to lads who were on the bench but I turned round and most of them are defenders or young kids. What can we do to change it?

“Putting Ben (Richards-Everton) up front the other week and now putting Paudie (O’Connor) up shows you where we are. That’s the challenging thing.

“You can’t give people confidence. You just have to work at it and be the best you can.

“Cheltenham, Exeter and Carlisle have all come here in the top six and there has been nothing in the teams, apart from when we lose a goal.

“Is there any belief that we are going to get one back unless it’s a set-piece? Probably not at the moment.

“We’ve got another tough game coming up next week against Oldham but hopefully we’ll have a couple of bodies back.

“Even if it’s just back in the squad, that will give the other boys a lift."
