The news came on the back of six straight league defeats, a record which some thought demanded a sacking:

But some saw it as a sign of football's short-termism.

And plenty of others pointed to his long-term achievements.

For some, McCall was let down by the club's owners.

You set of gutless cowards. You fail to back McCall in the transfer market & make a mockery of 2 transfer windows when we should be aiming for proven talent to get us up. You've 100% lost my backing with the sacking of a club legend who bleeds Bradford city DISGRACEFUL #bcafc

And the players have also come in for criticism.

Players have cost him his job. Compare this to Parky. He kicked arses behind the scenes. Players with poor attitudes or lazy ones left or were sold. He didn't suffer fools. McCall did and it cost him. #bcafc
