CITY will have a fight on their hands for Jamie Proctor, Phil Parkinson has predicted.
The Bantams boss is keen to hang on to the out-of-contract striker following an impressive half-season at Valley Parade.
Proctor weighed in with six goals from 15 starts to finish as the club’s joint second top scorer with Devante Cole and Tony McMahon.
Initially brought in on loan from Fleetwood as a makeweight in the Cole deal, City took over his contract for the rest of the campaign.
Proctor proved a genuine rival for James Hanson for the target man role and started both play-off legs against Millwall – scoring the equaliser at the Den - when their talisman striker was sidelined.
But Parkinson knows that other clubs will now be taking an interest on Proctor’s situation – and admits it could take time to get him to sign a new deal.
“We’d like to keep Jamie but we will face competition for him,” he said.
“We’ve had a chat with his agent but Jamie has been on a stag do and gets married this weekend.
“He’s going away after that so it could be a bit of a prolonged one to do.”
Parkinson has already indicated that keeper Ben Williams could be wrapped up quickly and he is confident on similar success with Nathan Clarke.
“Ben and Nathan are both experienced players and good characters to have around the dressing room. We’ve made them offers and we want them to sign.
“They’ve both just had big seasons and I think they are capable of the same next year.”
City are also discussing an option with left back Greg Leigh, whose spectacular strike against Aldershot in the FA Cup has been voted as the club’s goal of the season.
Fans are also being encouraged to get involved with City’s new season-ticket campaign.
They are putting together a sales video and want supporters to get involved.
Chief operating officer James Mason said: “We had some real success in the second part of last season with our quirky videos and we’re now putting together a season-ticket one featuring as many fans as we can.
“We want fans to send in clips of them saying £149 in as many creative ways as possible. Equally they can get in touch with me if they want to appear in the video.
“This is about the fans and we want them to have ownership of the campaign. We are in this together.”
