Bradford Park Avenue boss John Deacey is delighted to land Bantams youngster Adam Baker on loan this week and hopes he will make his debut at Boston United in Saturday's Blue Square Bet North clash.

The midfielder or striker has joined Avenue until April 27, having had a loan spell with league rivals Harrogate Town recently.

Deacey said: “I brought Adam in from Bradford City this week and he has done well to be fair so barring any last minute hiccups he will be involved at some stage against Boston.

“Everyone in the city knows what a prospect Adam is and I’m very happy that he chose to come to us for a spell.

“I think it’s good for everyone because they think a lot of him down at Valley Parade and you have got to give him a chance.

“It’s the right thing to do. Players like Adam are the future of the game but they need developing and the experience of games.”

Baker has seen some action for Phil Parkinson’s side this term, having come off the bench four times this season – all in cup ties, including their Capital One Cup win at Wigan.

His longest outing was a 90-minute appearance in the FA Cup first round extra-time win over Northampton after Zavon Hines was injured.

Avenue still have an outside chance of making the play-offs but Saturday’s hosts look to have missed out. Boston are currently 11th and have just seven games remaining.

Deacey’s men have still got 11 to play and, although they are eighth, are 11 points outside the top five.

There would have to be an amazing run from Avenue or a bad collapse by the clubs above them but two of them have played one game more.

Having had matches postponed last Saturday and Monday, Avenue desperately hope to beat this weekend’s predicted bad weather.

Deacey said: “All the boys are fit and they can’t wait for the game.

“This stop-start business hasn’t done us any favours, not at all. It has been a rubbish couple of months with the weather and the players are as sick of it as everyone else but they are all clear of any niggling injuries.”

Crowd favourite Martin Drury made his 150th Avenue appearance at Gainsborough Trinity the last time Avenue played. Skipper James Knowles will be disappointed that the two games since have been called off because he is on 147 appearances.

The centre back will be hoping that isn’t a maximum break and should reach his personal milestone of 150 over the Easter period, weather permitting!
