City want to ban Nahki Wells from celebrating his next goal!

Their ten-goal top scorer is suspended for tomorrow’s trip to Burton after receiving his fifth booking at Northampton. He left the pitch to run into the away fans after scoring.

Assistant boss Steve Parkin said: “It was a daft one the other night. We’ve just told him to keep away from the crowd now when he scores and run straight to the centre circle instead!

“It is frustrating to be without Nahki because a couple of the bookings he’s picked up have been soft. But it’s part of his learning curve that you have to adhere to the rules.”

City have options to cover for the Bermudian. Alan Connell has not kicked a ball in the last two games and is eager to be involved, while Zavon Hines or Garry Thompson can also play down the middle.

They are likely to be up against a third-choice goalkeeper in Burton’s net. Twenty-one-year-old Dean Lyness, a summer recruit from Kidderminster, is set for his first start with Stuart Tomlinson (knee) and Ross Atkins (side strain) both major injury worries.

Lyness has played a part in the JP Trophy at Coventry and came on for the final 15 minutes of the Stafford-shire derby with Port Vale on Tuesday when Tomlin-son hobbled off.

Centre half Rob Kiernan could line up against his former loan club in successive games.

The Wigan defender, who featured eight times under Peter Taylor at City two years ago, plays the final game of his month’s stay at Burton tomorrow.

And then he returns to the DW Stadium where Burton boss Gary Rowett fully expects him to face the Bantams again at the heart of the Wigan defence in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup fourth round.
