WYKE under-14s ended York Acorn's unbeaten home record in a game the visitors had been dreading for a long time.

Acorn were also top of the table and showed why early on with their pacy runners, good organisation and sharp distribution.

But Wyke's passion brought them attacking opportunities and a quick pass from top tackler Cameron Scott to Sebastian Bianco secured their first try, which was converted by Ben Proctor.

Intense defending helped Wyke to protect their lead and Connor Fawcett powered through for a second try in the 16th minute, being quickly followed over the whitewash by parents' player of the match Danny Worby.

After half-time, York again forced Wyke onto the back foot, being rewarded with a try, but Wyke responded with another Scott try, converted by Proctor, and added another two more in a 30-10 final scoreline.

Wyke's coaches' award went to Jamie Robinson.

Despite only having a small squad and being together for just a matter of weeks, Wyke under-12s proved they are on the up in their 12-4 defeat against Castleford Lock Lane.

Trailing 12-0 at half-time, with one of the tries being awarded after Wyke thought the ball had been dropped, they piled on the pressure in the second half.

Strong running from man of the match Lewis Adams and Dawson Birkett, and determined defence from top tackler Connor Harris, paid off when Wyke crossed the line with 12 minutes to go

But they failed to breach Lock Lane's defence again, despite dominating territory and possession. Joe Ockerby won Wyke's coaches' award.
