West Yorkshire Tykes’ under-11 boys and girls teams were victorious in the Yorkshire Regional Sportshall Athletics Festival at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax.

The boys notched 498 points, 28 points ahead of North Yorkshire A, while the girls scored 502 points, 32 points ahead of North Yorkshire, but both winning teams were pushed hard.

West Yorkshire boys won the obstacle, over-under, two-plus-two, one-plus-one and Grand Prix relays, and had several individual winners.

Luke Tweed won the standing long jump and was equal first in the speed bounce with team-mate Calum Durrans, while golds were also won by Theo Cokewright (chest push), Joe Byron (vertical jump) and Aran Thomas (balance test and javelin).

Girls champions from West Yorkshire were Georgia Norcliffe-Haigh (standing long jump), Molly Lee (balance test), Lois Logan (chest push and standing triple jump), Ella Moran (vertical jump), Molly Ellis (javelin) and Lucy Adeniji (target throw).

In the relays, the team won all the relays apart from the two-plus-two, where they were pipped by North Yorkshire.

An obvious progression for these athletes is to compete in outdoor track and field, and further information about local clubs is available from Alan or Christine Oates on 01274-416286.
