Andrew Wear collected an unprecedented two player of the year awards at the Upper Airedale Junior League’s seventh annual presentation night at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton.

Denholme youngster Wear had already won the under-15 Pro Coach Academy cricketer of the year trophy thanks to 330 runs, 14 wickets and ten catches at that age group.

But he also claimed the final award of the evening, the Under-17 Keighley Cup2000 League trophy, thanks to a record 30 wickets along with his 377 runs.

The under-13 Brook Taverner cricketer of the year, with 254 runs and 20 wickets, was Liam Smalley of Pendle Forest.

Tom Addison, a member of the Oxenhope under-11 championship-winning team, earned the under-11 CartaSport cricketer of the year prize for the second year in succession, having scored 144 runs and taken a record 16 wickets.

The girl cricketer of the year award went to Skipton’s Jane Newell, for whom progress has been rapid, as with 191 runs and 16 wickets she matched any of the boys in her league.

Collective recognition went to Oxenhope under-11s, Oakworth under-13s, Gargrave under-13s, Oakworth under-15s, Denholme under-15s, Embsay under-17s and Oxenhope under-17s.

The 350-strong audience also greeted under-nines Summer Tournament trophy and Malsis Cup winners Steeton, while there were additional awards for batting, bowling, wicketkeeping and fielding during the evening.
