LOW Ash Primary School are on course to defend their West area champions' trophy in this year's Drax Cup – the biggest cricket competition for under-nines in the country.

The Wrose school won the Hanson Academy School Sports Partnership stage at the Karmand Centre in Bradford after a series of league matches involving 11 schools held over three weeks.

Low Ash showed impressive form throughout with wins over Westminster (156-111), High Crags (172-93) and two 50-run victories against Rainbow and Lapage to reach the play-offs.

Feversham were equally unstoppable, enjoying success over Killinghall (150-82), Wellington (140-101) and Westbourne (198-117) before a close match with Cavendish which ended 135-131 and a 180-109 win against St Antony's.

In the play-off, both teams continued to show solid performances with the bat but Feversham were not quite able to chase down Low Ash's 255 and finished on 244.

Low Ash join All Saints, Lidget Green, plus Eldwick and Harden from Bingley, in the West area final at Pudsey St Lawrence Cricket Club today.

The area winners from North, South, East and West will play the 2015 Drax Cup finals at Headingley on Friday, July 10, prior to the Yorkshire Vikings v Durham Jets NatWest T20 Blast contest.
