Children from Bradford strutted their stuff at the district final of the under-nine and under-11 Key Steps gymnastics competition at Tong High School.

Organised by South Bradford School Sports Partnership, the event was judged by professional coaches from St Bede’s Gymnastics Club, with the youngsters in both age groups competing at foundation and elite level and being judged on their vault, floor and body management skills as both individuals and teams.

St Stephen’s Primary had the most successful day, winning in the under 11 elite category and finishing runner-up in the under-nine elite section, while Bankfoot also produced two top three placings, finishing first in the under-nine foundation and second in the under-11 foundation categories. Those two schools will be joined by Reevy Hill and St Anthony’s, the other team winners on the day, who will be representing Bradford at the West Yorkshire Youth Games on June 29.

Bankfoot also boasted the overall boys’ and girls’ winners but runner-up Tia Clifford, of Low Moor Primary School, said she was still happy with how it had gone: “I was nervous at first in case I disappointed my team, however I was over the moon once I achieved gold on vault, a silver on the floor and second place as overall girl.”
