ATHLETICS: The under-13 girls' teams were West Yorkshire's star turns in the Sportshall Athletics United Kingdom finals in Birmingham.
They reached all three relay finals and beat the favourite hosts and Cheshire to be crowned national champions in a thrilling finish to the four-by-one-lap event.
The West Yorkshire quartet were Rebecca Green (Bingley), Jessica Mayho (Parkside), Phillipa Medley (Bradford Grammar School and Claire Hill (Holmfirth).
Meanwhile, in the obstacle and the four-by-two-lap relays, West Yorkshire were edged into fourth place after two close finishes.
Leeds Carnegie Athletics Club member Grace Christopher was unlucky not to win a medal in a blanket finish of four athletes in the two-lap individual final.
Similarly, Medley just missed out on a medal in the high jump.
West Yorkshire were fifth of the 13 teams, the title going to Essex.
