Former Heckmondwike Grammar School pupil Emily Freeman is to become the latest Sporting Champion to visit Nab Wood Grammar School.
The Olympic athlete will be at the school on Thursday, January 22 coaching sprinting and relay techniques (1pm-3.45pm).
Nab Wood School’s sports co-ordinator Suzy Brooks said: “Emily will be coaching about 30 pupils.”
Freeman, who represents Wakefield Harriers, was selected for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team at 200 metres in the 2007 World Championships but was disqualified after a false start in her heat.
She had more success in the 4x100m relay, helping her country to the final where they finished fourth.
Freeman, who is a graduate in civil engineering from University College London, ran the third leg around the top bend – the same leg as when Britain took a silver medal at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Huddersfield, also reached the semi-finals of the 200m in Beijing last summer and was a part of the 4x100m team that reached the final, only for there to be a mix-up between Freeman and Montell Douglas on the second changeover when Britain were well placed for a medal.
Freeman follows in the footsteps of England women’s footballer Sue Smith, who visited the school last February.
