There might have been more clubs from West Yorkshire taking part but North Yorkshire sides led the way in Baildon Rugby Union Club's mini festival.

Teams from Keighley, Skipton, West Park Bramhope, Wharfedale and Baildon entered, more than 230 players taking part in all from the 18 teams.

Preparation for the festival under the organisation of Baildon's mini, junior and youth sections, started months ago but helping out on the day were members of the first and second team who had come through these age groups.

Some superb running, handling and kicking skills were on display, with players showing both confidence and strength when going to make a tackle. The under-sevens - the youngest age group - is certainly a spectacle, and it is amazing how far these youngsters have progressed in eight short weeks since the rugby season started.

The under-seven age group comprised teams from Skipton and Baildon and two teams from Wharfedale, with one of the Dales-men's teams topping the section.

Wharfedale also headed the under-eight division, teams from Skipton, Keighley, and two from Baildon (the Buffalos and the Bisons) completing the age group.

Skipton won the under-ten section from Wharfedale and Baildon, but Wharfedale were the under-11 champions, Baildon, Skipton, Keighley, and West Park Bramhope providing the opposition. At the end of the festival, all the players received a medal and certificate, with each winning team getting an award.

Age groups ranged from six years to 12s and, as previously, the festival was sponsored by Alan Barraclough of AB Fire Training.
