Bradford Grammar School helped their city complete a clean sweep in the table tennis events at the Jet2holidays West Yorkshire School Games Winter Festival.

The Frizinghall-based school won the Year Seven and Year Nine girls’ competitions and the Year Seven and Year Nine boys’ competitions at Leeds Metropolitan University’s Headingley Carnegie Campus.

Bradford won four other competitions, including two at badminton – the Key Stage Three boys by Sir Titus Salt School and the Key Stage Four boys via Hanson School.

The other two victories came at cross-country, with Baildon Church of England Primary School winning the girls’ Year Four team event and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School the boys’ Year Four team event, with the latter’s George Hahn finishing second in the individual event.

Woodhouse Grove School, representing Leeds, won the netball, while Baildon Church of England Primary School were runners-up in the Primary School sportshall athletics.

Brighouse, representing Kirklees, were third in the disability team challenge for secondary schools, while Brighouse High, representing Calderdale, were third in the Key Stage Four girls’ badminton.

Whitcliffe Mount School, representing Bradford, were third in the girls’ basketball, while another third place went to Bradford’s Beechcliffe in the disability football.

Over 2,000 children took part in the ten events, and guest of honour was Great Britain long jumper Chris Tomlinson.

Tong School pupils gave a cultural display at the vibrant opening ceremony.
