Former Bradford Boys' player John Clark is helping to revive memories of past glories by reuniting his youth football team later this month.

Almost exactly 50 years to the day of their English Schools' FA Trophy quarter-final match against Barnsley Boys at Valley Parade, the team will meet again to watch Bradford City take on Stockport County at the scene of their most memorable match.

The Telegraph & Argus printed a special edition featuring Bradford on the front and their opponents on the back before the game in February 1961, while the Bradford and Leeds managers at the time, Peter Jackson and Jack Taylor, were both in attendance on the day.

Bradford captain Barrie Wright was also England Boys' skipper that season, and future Burnley player Len Kinsella also lined up for the home side.

In the Barnsley ranks were England Schoolboy keeper Alan Ogley and Jimmy Greenhoff, who went on to play for Manchester United and score the winning goal in the 1977 FA Cup final against Liverpool.

They took on Barnsley in front 3,758 spectators, and were in front until five minutes from the end when the Bradford keeper bounced the ball, only for it to stick in the mud and allow a Barnsley forward to poke in an equaliser as the game finished 1-1 before Barnsley won 2-0 in the replay at Oakwell.

Clark, who played inside-left for the team, has spent the last six months tracking down members of that side and has put together a 50th anniversary celebration where they will have a drink and a meal together and have their picture taken on the pitch before watching City tread the same turf they did half a century ago.

However, Clark, who now lives in Norfolk, hasn’t been able to find all the Bradford players from that day, with Ian Watson, Raymond Gill, Alan Dunwell, David Avery and Alan Bloore still being sought.

If you can help John trace any of those players, you can contact him on 07876 681782.
