More than 80 children took part in an intra-community football tournament at Frame Two Soccer Centre in Bradford.

The event, for under-12s and under-16s teams, was organised by a group of five community organisations: SM Community College and Victor Street Masjid from Manningham, Al-Mustafa Cultural and Educational Centre from Girlington, Southfield Square Masjid and Madni Masjid ICEA from Thornbury.

The purpose of the event was to bring children from different areas of Bradford together to create unity and instil mutual respect and understanding for one another.

Abdul Hafeez, one of the organisers from Al-Mustafa Centre, said: “It was a great day, we had over 80 kids participate and they really enjoyed themselves. They can’t wait for the next tournament now.”

The children were also visited by local councillors and inspector Steve Dodds of West Yorkshire Police, who spoke about the importance of mutual respect and understanding.

The under-12s trophy was won by the children from Al-Mustafa Community Centre, who beat the SMCC boys 1-0 in a tense final.

Under-16 champions were Madni Jamia Masjid.

Naz Hussain, the director of Bradford youth organisations, based in Girlington, praised the organisers.

He said: “This was a fantastic initiative taken by the lads from these five organisations, as it brought together so many kids for a great day of football and also taught them about respect, understanding and tolerance, which is something lacking in our communities today.”
