Bradford Park Avenue 1, Nantwich Town 1

AVENUE face more fixture congestion and an FA Trophy second-round replay next Tuesday after being held to a draw by Nantwich Town in tonight's rearranged tie.

Young goalkeeper Conor Mitchell, on loan from Championship outfit Burnley, made his debut as he came in for the suspended Jon Stewart.

Club captain Simon Ainge was back in the centre of the Avenue defence following injury and Chib Chilaka was also in the starting line-up after recovering from a knock.

It was a cagey game early on with not many clear-cut chances but both sides forcing corners and gaining free-kicks in forward areas.

The game's first real opening came midway through the first half when Nathan Turner clipped a pass from Chilaka across the face of the Nantwich goal.

There was frustration for both sides as the half wore on as efforts were off target but there were nervy moments at either end before the first period ended goalless.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Josh Hancock fired in at the far post after a good cross found its way though Mitchell's area.

Avenue boss Martin Drury's response to going a goal down was to make a double change just after the hour – but it was a 67th-minute substitution that reaped rewards.

Michael Potts replaced Nathan Turner and just seven minutes later he stabbed home the equaliser from close range when the ball dropped kindly for him in the area.

It was a combination of Jason St Juste and Chilaka that created the chance and either of them could have claimed a late winner.

St Juste had a superb shot tipped over by Town keeper Terry Smith, while Chilaka was just foiled by the brave keeper – with both left needing treatment –minutes from time.

ALBION SPORTS thought they had beaten Premier Division leaders Worksop Town in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League but were thwarted by a late equaliser.

Omar Habib gave Sports a deserved lead but Calum Harrison hit a stoppage-time leveller for the visitors.

ECCLESHILL UNITED lost 5-2 at Westella VIP in Division One of the NCE League.
