Baildon 9, Old Rishworthians 6 Baildon rounded off their 2011 home campaign by moving into fourth spot with a fifth straight league win.
Despite not scoring any tries, they had the edge against Old Rishworthians at Jenny Lane, thanks to Nicky Lister.
The stand-off had an outstanding game and it was his accuracy with the boot that made the difference.
He kicked penalties on six, 27 and 48 minutes that gave his side victory to avenge the 6-0 defeat suffered by the Jenny Laners in Halifax at the start of the season.
The ex-Leeds Rhinos Academy player, who had to leave a Christmas lunch early last Wednesday with sickness, made a remarkable recovery to lead the back line.
He was unlucky not to have increased his side’s points tally after making several clean breaks, only to be denied by lack of support or some last-ditch tackling.
Although Baildon’s league form has been patchy, their recent run of good form gives them an outside chance of promotion this season.
And with the start of the RFU National Junior Vase and resumption of the Centurion Yorkshire Silver Trophy, in which they have already reached the quarter-final stages, the Jenny Laners are looking forward to the new year with great optimism.
