Otley 12 Huddersfield 39

Otley never gave up trying but found all their attacking ventures snuffed out by their well-organised visitors.

Huddersfield’s aggression forced numerous turnovers and they took advantage in the first minute when stolen ball saw winger Adam Ryder cross in the corner and Chris Johnson landed the first of six fine kicks.

With lock Howard Parr, who has recently returned from Afghanistan, adding his strength and know-how to the home pack, they were able to hold their own in the tight, if not in the line-out.

A strong drive set up the opportunity for fly half Tom Rock to step inside to the posts on 19 minutes, winger James Twomey converting. Huddersfield struck back with a penalty, quickly followed by a try from No 8 Nicholas Sharpe, finishing off a drive.

Straight from the restart, full back Tom Owen came up into the line to score, Johnson converting both to secure a 27-7 half-time lead.

Two minutes after the break, Johnson added a penalty and Ryder gave him an easy conversion when running round to touch down under the posts. Winger David Hall could not believe his luck when he broke from a maul to find no opposition as he raced to the corner.

Rock dodged his way over from short range on 68 minutes and Parr, taking a kick at speed to make 30 metres, was held up on the line. However, Otley could not make further progress.
