Hull 27, Otley 5

As usual Otley began with style in yesterday's SSE National League Two North clash.

Claiming their kick-off and with speed and accuracy of passing, they had Hull chasing shadows - but it did not last.

Conceding consecutive penalties, Otley found themselves defending a five-metre line-out and were unlucky when a misdirected Hull pass rebounded into the arms of No 8 Ollie Cook, who strode in at the posts for fly half James Cameron to convert.

Hull began to come into their own but Otley defended well with spasmodic attacks, mainly through winger Curtis Wilson.

But the home cover was keen and, following another determined drive from their pack, centre Byron Godfrey dodged though to put winger Will Robinson in at the corner.

Turning round with a 12-0 lead, Hull began to make use of a strong breeze and Otley were made to feel the pressure but were still able to test the home defence, gaining a number of attacking line-out positions only to lose their own throw - sadly a regular malaise.

Unable to make progress through their backs, the East Riding side returned to their forwards, who responded by driving flanker Rob Devonshire over on 56 minutes, Cameron converting.

But at last Otley found a way through, winger Tom Harris rounding off the excellent set-up.

Hull, though, were not finished, Devonshire grounding after another surge and, just before the finish, centre Steve Slingsby added a penalty.
