Sheffield 10, Cleckheaton 3

Two well-matched sides provided end-to-end action at a damp Abbeydale in SSE North One East yesterday.

From Cleckheaton’s point of view, the result was another big disappointment as their frequent infringements negated enterprising approach work.

Moreover, had Sheffield’s marksman Donal Collins been more accurate with his penalty attempts, the deficit would have been much larger.

Two penalties - one for each side from Collins and Iain Gordon - were the only scores of the first half.

The second half was just as competitve and similarly dominated by the referee's whistle.

The match was ultimately decided with a try for the hosts from winger Alex Hill, with Collins converting from the touchline in the 70th minute.

Cleckheaton were left to rue their indiscipline as well as a highly contentious disallowed try in the first half.
