Full back Jack Moon (Old Brodleians) was a try-scorer as Yorkshire claimed their second successive victory in the Northern Group of the National Under-20 Championship.

The defending champions secured an 18-0 win over Cheshire in difficult conditions at Halifax RUFC.

Yorkshire team manager Keith Dyas (Wibsey) said: “Obviously we’re delighted with the win and our players deserve praise for the way they performed.

“But I think we should also share those congratulations with the Halifax club, who have made the win possible by their hard work in preparing the pitch.

“Their commitment has been tremendous and without it we would not have had a game.”

Yorkshire’s other points came courtesy of a brace of tries by flanker Ben Dorrington (Hull) and a penalty from replacement Ben Watkinson (Durham University).

* The Midlands recovered from conceding an early try to prop Rondene Johnson (Mirfield Grammar School and Yorkshire) to win a thriller 29-24 against the North in the Under-16 Divisional Festival at Broadstreet Rugby Football Club, near Coventry.

The North had won their earlier festival match 10-7 against the South West.
