Cleckheaton 18, Sheffield Tigers 49

Cleckheaton were looking to go out on a high in their last National League Three North game of the season yesterday but with players missing and facing a big pack, it was not to be.

Nevertheless, the hosts made a good start, with the forwards winning the early play and Andy Piper going in for a try on six minutes.

Cleckheaton again crossed the line in the 17th minute in the shape of Lance Hamilton, and Tigers had a chance to pull three points back in the 23rd minute, but Tom Outram's kick went wide.

However, he didn't miss with his next opportunity.

The try of the game came from Ross Hayden in the 30th minute, With Tigers on the attack in Cleckheaton's 22, he picked up an intercepted pass and ran the length of the field for a try in the corner.

The home side looked on course for a four-try bonus point, but the penalty count against them started to mount and Tigers got back into the game with a try from Ali Thomson and a penalty from Outram to make the half-time score 18-11.

In the second half, the floodgates opened and Tigers ran in five tries from Zack Holgate (2), Outram (2) and Dave Scully, and five conversions and a penalty from Outram to make this Cleckheaton's worst defeat of the season.
