Yorkshire Division Three: Leeds Medics & Dentists 40 Baildon 20

BAILDON began and ended this Yorkshire Division Three contest well, but lost focus in between.

Medics full back Phil Gardiner looked dangerous, but the hosts were also error prone early doors and went behind when the visitors put eight phases together for Chris Peel to crash over from short range, with Ollie Williams converting.

Then Dan Fletcher was held up just short but the home side had already been penalised for killing the ball in their 22, and Williams landed the penalty for 10-0.

Medics also lost a man to the sin bin, but ironically they then perked up, great hands and superb offloads combining for a converted try beneath the posts.

Baildon's kick-off then failed to go ten metres, and poor tackling from the scrum let Medics in for a softer second converted try.

Despite some dazzling breaks by Josh Strauss, Baildon turned round 14-10 down, and that became 21-10 when they off-loaded straight to a Medics player in the second half.

But the visitors were still creating chances, although they knocked on with the try-line begging and Nathan King went close following a Dan Cookson turnover.

Baildon then paid a heavy price for having Peel sin-binned for slowing down a Medics tap penalty, with the hosts scoring two converted tries, including a Gardiner scorcher, to make it 35-10.

However, the visitors rallied, with a Matty Robinson tap penalty leading to him linking with Tom Cluett for Guy Price to score a try.

Luke Strauss then lost the ball over the line in the corner, and Medics went the length of the pitch to get their sixth try which, for once, was unconverted.

But Baildon got the last score, winning a line-out on the home 22 and setting up a rolling maul which went all the way to the line for Price's second try.

The set-piece worked well in general for the visitors but they also tended to repeat errors and were not as clinical as Medics.
