Yorkshire Division Four North West: Knaresborugh 22 Wibsey 12

FOUR defeats in their last five matches means that Wibsey's bid to qualify for the Yorkshire Division Four 'Super Eights' is hanging in the balance.

Their latest setback by 22-12 at North West leaders Knaresborough means that Wibsey's simplest route through now is by beating closest rivals Bramley Phoenix at Northfield Road on Saturday.

However, even a losing bonus point for Wibsey would mean that Bramley would have to gain maximum league points from the matches against Wibsey and at home to bottom-of-the-table Thirsk the following weekend.

Trailing 10-0 at Knaresborough, Wibsey hit back with a 36th-minute Ross Simpson try that Brad Wright converted, but it was 22-7 before they scored again, with Chris Farley – switched to lock in the absence of Marcus Grimes, who was on childminding duties – touching down in the corner after 56 minutes.

After that, the visitors, who were also missing back Jimmy Rogers due to work commitments, dominated, but the hosts' determined tackling kept them out.

No 8 Simpson was named man of the match, closely followed by hooker and skipper James Brown and prop Danny Carr, who had a clear edge over his 20-stone opponent.
