SSE National League Three North
Lymm 24
Cleckheaton 30
THIS first SSE National League Three North away win of the season was just the tonic for a gutsy Cleckheaton side who, despite a weakened line-up, managed to hold on in the final minutes in the face of an intense Lymm fightback.
Cleckheaton's forwards were in the ascendancy in the first half, and tries from Richard Piper, Callum Thompson and Lee Queeley, one of which was converted by Ross Hayden, were countered by a brace of tries from Lymm full back Dave Williamson.
The hosts levelled matters on the hour with a try from hooker Ross White, converted by Andy Rowley, but it was Cleckheaton who kept their composure in the windy conditions to push ahead with a try from Matt Piper and a drop goal from Mike Piper.
Lymm reduced the deficit to one point in the last minute with a converted try but it was Queeley who settled matters for the visitors with a try in the final seconds.
