This highly entertaining National two North fixture had drama to the very last minute when Otley, one point behind and pressing for a winning score, were hit by a sucker punch – Preston escaping for No 8 Dominic Moon to score a vital try.
Full back Sean Cayla’s conversion robbed Otley of a second bonus point.
Hoppers scored through Cayla after three minutes but Otley soon replied through Jack Mackie after a good rolling maul.
Ben Cooper levelled with the kick and went on to convert every try.
Winger Ollie Cicognini went in at the corner before a neat interception on halfway by Jack Coady saw the winger race to the line.
A try from No 7 Dan Temm captured a bonus point on the half hour but the hosts came back with four tries of their own.
A second try from Temm raised Otley’s hopes only to be dashed by the late score.
