Cleckheaton 25 Darlington Mowden Park 11

Two tries from Richard Sawyer helped to make this National League Three North win sweet for Cleckheaton after the previous week's EDF Energy National Trophy defeat to the same opposition.

In what was at times a scrappy game, Cleckheaton had to withstand some early pressure but cleared their lines to move into Park's 22.

Then, from a catch and drive, the forwards sent Sawyer in for his first try. Mowden Park pressed again but failure to control the ball allowed Cleckheaton a penalty chance.

However, Chris Quinn's 13th-minute effort drifted wide on the wind.

Mowden Park eventually got into the game eight minutes later when a missed tackle by Tom Lauriston let Gareth Kerr in for an easy try in the corner, Anthony Mellalieu's conversion hitting a post.

The visitors then took charge again and, although Park defended well, the likes of Sawyer, Geoff Jones and Ryan Duckett helped to make the pressure tell and Shaun Buckley was sin-binned in the 38th minute.

However, despite Cleckheaton pressing against a team that were a man short, Park held firm until half-time.

The hosts started the second half well, Mellalieu landing an early penalty, but soon Cleckheaton were back in Park's 22, only to be held on the line.

However, from a line-out the pack went for the score, scrum half Alex Drage nipping over on the blindside for a 48th-minute try that Quinn converted.

He then landed two penalties to Mellalieu's one, which put Cleckheaton 18-11 ahead by the 67th minute.

Cleckheaton had a golden chance to seal it when, from a backs move, Lauriston darted into the 22, but his pass to Joe South left the winger with little room to manoeuvre.

However, Sawyer stole a try in the 76th minute, Quinn converting to make it 25-11.
