SARAH Lancaster hopes her Keighley Albion Ladies underdogs can continue their fairytale run in the Coral Women's Challenge Cup this weekend.

Albion are the only non-Super League side left in the competition ahead of their home quarter-final tie with Wakefield Trinity on Sunday (2pm, free entry).

The League One side, who play their home games at Crossflatts Cricket Club, Bingley Road, qualified for the last eight after grabbing a 50-9 second round victory over fellow League One side Halifax last month.

But they lost 44-4 at Super League side Featherstone Rovers in a warm-up friendly clash last week after a couple of weeks break from action.

Albion will be encouraged by Wakefield's league form so far this season. The Mobile Rocket Stadium side lie second-from-bottom in the Women's Super League on two ponts following four defeats from their opening five league games of the season.

Meanwhile, Albion are joint second in League One with two other teams after two wins from their first two games of the season.

Following this weekend's quarter-finals, the semi-finals will take place on July 7.

The final will be played at the home of League One football side Bolton Wanderers, the University of Bolton Stadium, on Saturday, July 27. It will be part of a triple header bill with the semi-finals of the men's Challenge Cup.

Speaking after the quarter-final draw was made earlier this month, Lancaster said: "To get Wakefield is fantastic in front of a home crowd.

"We are the underdogs in this one. Lots of people get behind the underdogs.

"We are pleased with the draw. They are all Super League teams left apart from us."

Albion are also looking to extend a successful season so far for the club. They lifted the Women's Rugby League Association Plate after beat East Leeds Ladies 52-14 in April's final. It marked a brilliant day for a team that had, until then, struggled for numbers all season. Albion fielded a full 13 players for the first time and came with the winning trophy. Half the game was played with 12.

Third-placed Albion will return to League One action on Sunday, June 30, with a home clash against Hull KR (2pm kick-off) looking to close the four-point gap on leaders Halifax.

Albion Ladies is open to all females from 16 years old.
