WYKE continued their winning start to the season with a demolition job at home to bottom-side Wakefield Hawks.

The Yorkshire Men's League Division Two leaders made it four wins out of four with a comprehensive 62-12 victory against their visitors.

The scene was perfectly set for summer rugby with the sun shining and the pitch at the Recreation Ground in fine order.

Wyke got off to a storming start when, with just four minutes on the clock, centre Calvin Barker broke the Hawk’s defensive line and raced in for a try.

Brad Clarkson was unable to add the extras but he soon made up for it when minutes later he rounded off a lovely run around move to dive over.

Jordan Payton stepped up to slot over the conversion and gave Wyke a 10-0 lead.

The home side extended that further when Ash Hutchinson found fellow prop Luke Robinson who crashed over the whitewash.

This time Clarkson was on target with a successful conversion.

On 21 minutes the visitors were punished when Payton picked up a stray pass and outpaced the chasing defenders to touch down.

Payton then turned provider when his superb cross field kick was collected by winger Tevin Campbell who made it 24-0.

Payton added the extras once again and Wyke were looking comfortable with a strong lead.

Barker then piled on more misery for the Hawks as he bust the line to race clear.

With the half coming to an end Jordan Myers was sin binned for an infringement and the Hawks took full advantage to pick up for their first points.

After good pressure from the visitor's second row Tom Hugill was able to force his way over.

Paul Mabbley was successful with the kick to make it 30-6 at the break.

Wyke started the second half as they did the first though and Barker quickly helped himself to a hat-trick in style.

The centre scampered the full length of the field to get the ball home.

However, the second half belonged to out-of-this-world substitute Lamech Superville who blitzed the Hawk’s defence with three superb tries in eight minutes.

First he took an excellent cut out pass from Payton to score out wide.

Super Lamech then flew three quarters of the field from a scrum, with his third coming from lightning feet which allowed him to side-step over the line.

Wyke took their try tally to a dozen later in the game courtesy of Brad Peel and Payton.

The hosts remain in first - thanks to their far superior points difference - despite Ossett Trinity Tigers keeping apace with four wins of their own.

Next up on the agenda is a trip to play Skirlaugh Bulls.
