CENTRE Brad Peel took the plaudits with a hat-trick for Wyke in their 32-6 win at Wibsey Warriors in Yorkshire Men's League Division Two.

Just a week after their Jack Senior Memorial Bradford Cup triumph over Clayton, the black and whites continued their good start to the season.

This was their third win out of three to leave them top of the table.

Hosts Wibsey took the lead with a try before stocky winger Tevin Campbell broke the hosts' defence for Wyke's opening try and then half-back Brad Clarkson fed Peel for his first score.

With the wind behind them after the break, Wyke's pack upped the ante.

Winger Cameron Foster found space down the left flank and put in a clever cross-field kick to find centre Peel ready to pounce for his second.

The re-introduction of Oscar Woodhead and Luke Robinson bolstered the pack and with some clever build-up play substitute hooker Coby Kittsen wrong-footed the defence to score his first of the season.

Next came the try of the game when, from a scrum, Jordan Payton put on a clever move that put man of the match Calvin Barker through a hole and he won the foot race over 80 metres to score under the sticks.

Clarkson put the icing on the cake with a superb offload to Payton, who put Peel in for his hat-trick.

Wyke coach Ian Wormald said: "It’s always good beating another local side but we were not at our best in the first half, but the lads dig deep.

"I honestly think the scoreline flattered us but once we play rugby and the forwards get us to great field position, we have the quality to score points from anywhere on the pitch and that showed in the second half."

Meanwhile, a Brett Gray double helped Wyke Academy to a 26-10 home win against Crigglestone All Blacks in their opening Division Four game.
