BRADFORD Dudley Hill want to hold onto the bragging rights as the "premier side" in the city with a mammoth local derby just around the corner.

It's an all-Bradford showdown in the National Conference League Division Two on Saturday when Dudley Hill host rivals West Bowling.

The fixture has been absent since the 2008/09 season, where Dudley Hill secured bragging rights for just over a decade with a 31-10 victory, according to team manager Steve Wright.

He said: "It was a great performance by a lad called Daniel Palmer, who did actually play at West Bowling the year before he played for us, so that added a bit more spice to that.

Wright added that the weekend's tie, between "two premier teams in Bradford", had been a long time coming due to the sides being in separate leagues over the years for one reason or another.

This changed at the end of last season when Dudley Hill dropped out of Division Two and Bowling just missed out on promotion.

Wright said: "Since the Bowling staying down was confirmed, it's been on everybody's lips since, it's just a shame we've got to wait until the last game of the season for the next one as well, so there is a long way to go for somebody to have those bragging rights."

Hype and heat is building in the lead up to the derby and Dudley Hill's partnership with Bradford Bulls means the game will be being streamed live.

Wright said: "It's going to get it out to a lot of people as well, and John Bateman said he's going to be staying up to watch it over in Australia. I'm sure he'll be watching it with Elliot Whitehead, with their colours on.

"Everybody's just massively looking forward to it and it should be a really good day all round regardless of the result."

He added: "A couple of lads are a bit friendly with each other as well so I think there's been a bit running up to the game and a couple of lads said they've seen a few bits on social media from supporters and players looking forward it.

"Apart from a couple of lads that have come in from outside the club with us, they're all Dudley Hill to the core, they'll all be West Bowling to the core and it's just that sheer pride of having those bragging rights, that we've had for ten years.

"We got the last win between ourselves and by default we've been the premier side in Bradford just because they had to drop out of the conference, not playing-wise, just because of facility-wise."

In the present day, both sides come into the tie on the back of wins with Bowling boasting a 100 per cent record so far.

But, Wright believes their form isn't necessarily anything to write home about.

He said: "I still don't think at this present time you can read too much into West Bowling's early couple of results.

"The Askam team they brought down, I didn't recognise a lot of names on the team. But, that said you can only play what's in front of you and they really put them to the sword, which you'd expect them to do."
