WEST Bowling boss Ryan Hunkin is feeling good for this weekend's big Bradford rugby league derby, but admits it's just another game.

His charges will visit local rivals Bradford Dudley Hill on Saturday in a full-blooded National Conference League Division Two clash.

The showdown has been reignited thanks to Dudley Hill dropping down from the division above last season.

It's set to be a bumper Bradford affair, with the potential for plenty of biff, but Hunkin is remaining level-headed.

He said: "To be honest, there's all the hype around it, but in camp it's a game that we've got to go out and prepare for and really work hard for.

"There's going to be a little bit of emotion involved and a little bit of fire involved, but I believe it's the team who keeps composed and keeps their head on the actual game that will probably come out the winners.

"We know that and we're aware of that and we want to showcase again how good we are with ball in hand and defensively how strong we are.

"It's trying not to read too much into everything around it, but just trying to focus on what's going to go out on the pitch."

Bowling are on fire in the league with two wins out of two and put in a good showing in the Challenge Cup before being knocked out in the third round by Hunslet.

Dudley Hill on the other hand have had a mixed bag, only managing their first win last weekend.

But Hunkin is wary of a Dudley Hill side he believes are in a "false position" and have strong edges.

He said: "I don't expect anything. If we don't work hard and don't put the hard yards in, we're not going to get anything out.

"Rugby league's an honest game. If you don't put anything in, you're not getting anything out.

"So we're not expecting anything. The only thing myself and John - the other coach - expect is for us to work hard and that's what we've said straight from pre-season.

"Be honest with ourselves, commit to what we're doing and work hard and that's all we expect from anybody who takes to the field for us.

Bowling beat Clock Face Miners at home 54-12 in their last game, to take them into third despite having played less games than most of those below them.

Hunkin's men stormed to a 44-0 lead at the break and, even though the coach was disappointed they didn't kick on in the second, he was delighted his side scored points from different areas of the pitch.

He added: "It's ideally what we want. We keep asking questions in the middle. If their defence answers those questions then we try the edges and we continue like that - we just keep probing."

"Ability-wise, we can probe throughout the pitch. We've worked a lot on core skill this pre-season, just grip and carries and catch and pass."
