Clayton look to have ensured Premier Division rugby next term following their 28-18 Pennine League success over bottom club Keighley Town.

Departing coach Richard Hesletine is determined to leave the team in good order after a three-year term that is coming to an amicable end.

"We now need another two points to make absolutely sure of staying up," said the former Pennine coach of the year.

"And with our England Lionheart captain Scott Pen-dlebury in top form, we are more than confident."

Pendlebury led the way to victory against Town with two tries, backed up by another brace from prop John Parkin-son and a solo effort by Craig Hodgson.

Clayton have a chance to achieve their target when Elland are the visitors tomorrow night (6.45pm), with the experienced trio of Danny Robinson, Craig Hillam and Jason Brooksbank back in action at Lidget Green.

West Bowling made it a double day of celebration for their two senior teams.

The National Conference outfit were promoted to the Premier Division without taking the field when other results went in their favour, while the second-string pulled off a stunning 24-20 Pennine League win at Dodworth.

Bowling A showed they are not throwing in the towel regardless of being relegated to Division Two, with tries coming from Johnny Johnson (2), Bernard Dowling and John Helliwell, backed up by Ashley Wood's four goals.

Birkenshaw are not yet out of the relegation woods, despite a cracking 20-18 home success against Thornhill Trojans in Division One.

Birky showed their mettle with touchdowns from Andy Hirst (2), Morton Robinson and Simon Armitage, with Matt Honeysett kicking the goals.

With their league programme now concluded, Birky have to rely on other results going their way to stay up.

Bank Top Harriers had a walkover after Underbank Rangers cried off, thereby gaining two valuable Division Three points without risking injuries.

The Harriers still need to win all their remaining fixtures, starting with tonight's trip to Elland A, to stand any chance of winning promotion in second spot.

Wyke A lost the Division Six derby 25-16 against Clayton A, who made it three wins out of three against the black-and-whites this season.

But while the result was a lot closer this time, it did not detract from the carnival atmosphere at Towngate following the Wyke first team's Division Four title success.

Jon Holdsworth, Sean Godfrey and Jason Doherty crossed the whitewash for the hosts.
