A late penalty from loose forward Brett Marriott earned Queensbury a 12-12 share of the Pennine League spoils at home to Premier Division relegation rivals St Joseph's.

Queensbury scored tries through Matt Wolski and Luke Brearcliffe, plus one conversion from Marriott, and were always being forced to play catch-up rugby until the welcome late misdemeanour that earned them a valuable point.

Victoria Rangers came the expected cropper in the first round of the Pennine President's Cup, getting hammered 76-0 at Yorkshire County Cup finalists Sharlston Rovers.

Rangers stuck to their guns throughout, despite the huge total, with packman Ash Vanzie their best player on the day.

Last season's Andrew Bennett Trophy runners-up Wyke had a real tussle on their hands before going through 18-14 against Dudley Hill A.

The black and whites played downhill and could only manage a try from Ben Stirk in the corner, converted from the touchline by Mickey Wormald, as Hill led 12-6 at the interval.

Substitute Andy Patchett put in a clever kick-and-chase to pounce, leaving Wormald to add the extras and tie the score at 12-12.

The visitors then inched ahead with a penalty before centre Reece Spurr crashed over at the flag and the deadly boot of Wormald again ensured maximum reward.

Bank Top Harriers went into the hat unopposed after Silsden cried off, while Odsal Sedbergh joined them when Ovenden A also failed to show, but Thornton crashed out 28-4 at Underbank.

Wibsey Warriors enjoyed a safe passage into round two of the Supplementary Cup with a 54-6 win at Woodhouse. Johnny Vare, Michael Derricks and Adam Bose posted a brace of tries apiece.

West Bowling A could only manage a solitary goal from Ash Wood in their 46-2 reverse at unbeaten Division One hosts Crigglestone All Blacks.

A depleted Wyke A outfit lost 44-8 at Kings Cross in Division Six. Aaron Priestley and the long-serving Chris Scott crossed, with Dean Smith taking the man of the match award.
