Odsal Sedbergh 0, Morley Borough 30

MORLEY full back Daz Foster helped himself to four touchdowns as Odsal Sedbergh were overpowered in a torrid Pennine League encounter at Odsal Rec.

Sedge used the slope to good effect in the opening exchanges of the Championship One Division clash, launching two speedy attacks on the flanks from wingman Ben Cousins and centre Luke Dawson.

But it was the visitors who struck first when prop forward Dave Parker barged his way to the whitewash, leaving Foster to add the extras.

Morley substitute forward Ryan Goblin was sent to the sin-bin following a huge haymaker punch that fortunately missed its target.

But the hosts' extra-man advantage was wasted when packman Kris Fawthrop suffered an identical fate after he obstructed in the tackle moments later.

The massive Morley pack used the heavy conditions to the full, wearing out the much lighter home six, and the war of attrition told when Foster kicked over the top to win the race to the corner.

Foster was once again on the score-sheet when Borough used a dummy runner to change the point of attack, leaving a huge gap to the posts, and the scorer kicked his second conversion to close the half at 16-0.

Sedbergh opened the second stanza with a dazzling, jinking run from wingman Jarred Priestley that petered out due to a lack of support.

And it was soon back to the grunt-and-grind tactics, mixed in with a few raised elbows from the visiting pack.

The tried and tested game plan set up the chance for Foster to power through a tiring home defence to claim his hat-trick – and second- row forward Ryan Croft increased the tally when he crossed at the flag.

The spirit in the home side continued to sparkle as they refused to be intimidated by the visitors' monster six, typified by a heart-warming 50-metre dash up the middle from second-row forward James Sharp.

Odsal's heroic defence held firm until the closing minutes when Foster inflicted another blow by claiming his fourth try to leave the hosts with a nil return.
