WEST Bowling open up their Pennine League Championship Division campaign with a trip to neighbours King Cross Park.

Bowling are under the guidance of former player-coach Glenn Barraclough this season after a number of years as assistant coach at Keighley Cougars.

His No 2 at Bowling is Dougie Lumb, who coached their under-18s last season.

They have lost a number of promising juniors to the professional game but will be looking to make a positive start against their Halifax rivals.

There’s a big derby game in Championship One, as Odsal Sedbergh welcome fierce rivals Birkenshaw to the Recreation Ground in what’s sure to be a cracker.

Scrum half Luke Barnes is set to make his debut aged just 16, but Sedge will be without the services of regular Josh Briggs with an ankle problem.

Kris Fawthrop and the experienced Shaun Flynn are also unavailable.

Wibsey Warriors start life in Division Two after their recent application to join the summer National Conference League.

The Warriors expect to hear next month whether their application has been accepted, and will continue to be coached by Jason Hirst if it is successful.

Nick Walker takes the lead as the Warriors’ Pennine League coach and will be looking forward to the visit of Kellingley Welfare in what should prove a tough encounter.
