Full back Ben Nabozny came riding to the rescue with two second-half touchdowns to prime a Birkenshaw recovery on their visit to Crigglestone All Blacks in Pennine League Division One.

Birky looked completely out of sorts in a lacklustre first stanza, with only an Alan Binns try on the board when they fell behind 14-4.

The All Blacks kept up the momentum by scoring first on the restart before hooker Matty Gowland gave Nabozny the chance to close the gap.

Centre Damian Smith had an effort disallowed before Nabozny raced in for his brace, leaving packman Sean Godfrey to add his second conversion and put Birky back in the hunt at 18-16.

Prop forward Trevor West then picked exactly the right time to post his first try of the season, which Godfrey converted to see the visitors 22-18 ahead with victory in sight.

Crigglestone had other ideas, however, and quickly levelled the scores but Godfrey kept a cool head to slot a drop goal.

Veteran prop Paul Bancroft then forced his way to the chalk in the dying embers of the thrilling encounter to make sure of the spoils for Birky.

Queensbury player-coach Andy Senior praised his team to the rafters following their 28-6 defeat at Premier Division leaders Hunslet Old Boys.

Bury surrendered home advantage when their ground was declared unfit, and they soon fell 16-0 behind.

Senior was upbeat, however, saying: “It was a very tough, aggressive game with both packs relishing the challenge.

"We coughed up possession and had to defend our line too much but it was a much-improved performance, with Hunslet scoring two tries to our one in the second half, ours coming from debutant Dan Hawksworth, who was our man of the match.”

Division Three promotion contenders Odsal Sedbergh's rich vein of form continued with an easy 46-6 win at Hoyland Vikings.

Andy Gabriel was the star performer with four touchdowns, ably assisted by Bob Booth, Luke Sellers, Josh Briggs, Ryan Scholes and Jarod Priestley, who posted solo efforts. Well-travelled packman Jason Woolham added the seven extras.

Victoria Rangers booked their Odsal Stadium Hudson Foster Supplementary Bradford Cup final berth with a 44-30 success over Wibsey Warriors A after extra time at Newlands.
