Keighley Cougars have made an approach to sign former Bradford Bulls prop Richard Moore for the rest of the season.

Cougars player-coach Barry Eaton said: "Chris Clough, who has just broken into our first team, is Richard's half-brother and we understand that he is unhappy at Leigh Centurions.

"However, Richard is under contract with them for next year and if they wanted a £4,000 or £5,000 compensation fee for us to play him for the rest of the season, we couldn't afford to do a deal.

"There are only seven league games left for us so we would want to sign him as a free agent."

Cougars are at home to Workington Town tomorrow and could well hand a debut to former West Bowling junior Ryan Smith, who can play at full back or wing.

In addition, Eric Johnson is in the squad and the hooker may come off the bench in a bid to liven up the Cougars against what is a large pack.

Johnson was in the Cougars' Senior Academy team that defeated Doncaster 50-8 on Thursday night.

Director of rugby Peter Roe and Eaton will certainly be looking for an improvement on the Cougars' 31-6 defeat at bottom club London Skolars last Sunday.

Eaton said: "We dominated the match for the first 20 minutes and were 6-0 up but then went 14-6 down and spilled a glorious chance to make it 14-12 when Chris Clough dropped the ball.

"We also started the second half well but when we concede a try we tend to concede another one or two. We need to show more resilience."
