Charlie Martin is set for duration with Keighley Cougars

Cougars have a partnership agreement with Tigers and, although Jake Emmitt has returned to Castleford, Martin should feature on Sunday in the crunch home clash with Leigh Centurions.

Keighley’s player-coach Paul March said: “Charlie has settled in well and it looks like he will be with us all year, which is great.”

The Cougars boss has also signed hooker Joe Parkinson, although he will play no part this weekend.

Parkinson played for Hunslet Hawks after a spell in Australia following a successful year in 2011 in the senior academy side at Wakefield.

March added: “Joe is only little but he’s very aggressive and quick out of dummy half and will give us another option.

“He won’t play this weekend but Ollie Pursglove is available again after injury, and that’s a massive boost. Other players should also be back from injury soon.”

However, March will hand a debut to former Bulls youngster Jonathan Walker.

Castleford prop Walker played his junior rugby for Bradford Victoria ARL and had a spell with the Bulls Academy before joining the Tigers.

March, whose side will be looking to avoid a fifth straight defeat, said: “Jonathan is a Keighley lad and it’s fantastic to have him here at Cougars playing for his home-town club.

“He’s a quality player – very aggressive and physical – and I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Despite the dismal statistic of four straight defeats – the latest a 20-10 reversal at home to Swinton – Cougars have collected losing bonus points from three of those matches and showed plenty of spirit in the recent 30-20 defeat at Halifax.

Chairman Gary Fawcett said: “Halifax was closer than ten points and we had chances to beat Whitehaven which we didn’t capitalise on.

“We might have been pushing a win against Swinton had things gone our way early on, but we’ll keep battling on and it also has to be remembered we’ve been missing a handful of players through injury.”
