ECCLESHILL United will not be going any further in the Northern Counties East League League Cup, after suffering a dreadful 8-1 defeat at Knaresborough Town on Tuesday night.
The pair’s second round tie looked to be in the balance when visiting striker Matthias Britton netted to halve the deficit on 41 minutes, after the home side had moved into an early 2-0 lead.
But Knaresborough grabbed a vital third goal just seconds before half-time, and Eccleshill never recovered from there.
That being said, it was still only 4-1 to the home side with 15 minutes to go, but they ran riot at the death, Cameron Bedford helping himself to a late hat-trick.
Silsden had a better night in the competition, booking their spot in the next round with a 3-2 home win over Goole AFC.
Luke Brooksbank put the Cobbydalers in front early on, but Ellis Hudson put through his own net to allow the visitors to level.
Cody Cromack restored Silsden’s lead just before the break, before veteran striker Tom Greaves scored to put them 3-1 up on 54 minutes.
Goole pulled a goal back with a quarter of an hour to go, but they were unable to score again and take the game to penalties.
Brighouse Town missed the chance to move up into the Northern Premier League East Division play-offs, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at early leaders Emley AFC.
The home side went in front after 13 minutes, only for Romario Dunne to quickly find an equaliser.
But Emley had the last word, as they netted the winning goal on the hour mark.
Finally, Guiseley climbed a place to fourth in the NPL Premier Division after a wild 3-3 draw against Morpeth Town at Nethermoor.
Will Longbottom scored twice before the break to ensure the hosts went into the break level at 2-2.
But Morpeth hit the front with a fine goal 10 minutes into the second half, and as the gamed edged towards its conclusion, they looked all set to claim the three points.
But Jordan Thewlis popped up with an equaliser in second-half stoppage-time to snatch a point for Guiseley.
