BRIGHOUSE Town Women have retained their West Riding County Cup crown after thumping Leeds United’s Under-21s 7-0.
It was a case of women against girls in Woodlesford, as the Leeds youngsters fought hard but were outclassed by superior opponents.
Brighouse dominated from the off, but were only 1-0 up after half-an-hour, Lissa Woodhouse slotting home to open the scoring.
But Brig broke the back of the contest with a double strike before half-time.
Lucy Sowerby’s corner somehow found its way straight into the back of the net, before a fierce strike from Woodhouse found the net and put the holders 3-0 up.
Two goals in a minute shortly after the break from Annabelle Cass and Sowerby put Brighouse 5-0 in front, but they were not quite done.
In the final 10 minutes, Sowerby rounded the Leeds goalkeeper to complete her hat-trick, with Monique Watson adding a late seventh goal.
It completes a strong season for Brighouse, who after a slow start, achieved an impressive fifth-placed finish in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.
