BRADFORD (Park Avenue) got the result they probably needed last night, without even playing.

Their National League North relegation rivals Farsley Celtic and Blyth Spartans faced off at The Citadel, a game pushed back eight days after the pair's Easter Monday clash was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

A win for Farsley would have put them eight points above Avenue, above Kettering, and left Mark Bower's side seven points off safety.

A draw between the pair would have kept Farsley out of the relegation zone at Blyth's expense, and left Avenue needing at least six points to survive.

But neither of those results came to pass, as Blyth claimed a 2-0 away victory.

That win moves the North-East side above Farsley on goal difference, dumping the Celts back into the dreaded bottom four.

A quartet of teams being consigned to the drop this season means the scramble to survive is fiercer than ever, but last night's result keeps Avenue in the hunt.

They sit five points off safety, but while all those around them only have two games left to play, Avenue have three.

They visit now officially safe Hereford on Saturday, host play-off hopefuls Alfreton Town next Wednesday, before ending their season at home to title-chasing AFC Fylde on the final day.

Elsewhere in non-league last night, newly-relegated Liversedge won their final away game in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, 2-1 at 10-man Ashton United.

The Ashton keeper was sent off for bringing down his man on 37 minutes, and after a long delay, Nathan Cartman converted the penalty to put the visitors in front.

Jack Carr added a second for Sedge on the stroke of half-time, and though the hosts halved the deficit on 63 minutes, they were unable to find an equaliser.

Genuine relegation candidates at the start of this month, Brighouse Town are now remarkably eighth in the NPL East Division after five straight wins, and could end the season just eight points off the promotion play-offs.

They won their penultimate game 2-0 last night at fellow mid-table side Cleethorpes Town, the goals coming courtesy of prolific strikers Jack Boyle and Mohammad Qasim in a five-minute spell early in the second half.
