LIVERSEDGE are down, having suffered a 1-0 defeat at West Yorkshire rivals Guiseley.

Courtney Meppen-Walters netted an 87th minute penalty for the hosts in this Northern Premier League Premier Division clash, which leaves Sedge six points off safety with only two games left to play.

But they cannot stay up now, because previous relegation rivals Marske United and Stalybridge Celtic face each other tomorrow night.

Marske only need a single point to condemn Sedge to the drop, but a Stalybridge win would also send Jonathan Rimmington's side down.

That all means there is no possible equation left that would see Liversedge survive.

In a game of few chances on Saturday, Meppen Walters' penalty with three minutes to go proved the difference, as he sent Sedge keeper Jordan Porter the wrong way.

Sedge had a free-kick on the edge of the box in the dying seconds, knowing a goal would keep them in with a slim chance of staying up.

But it was fired high and wide, condemning them to the drop.

That means they are set to face Brighouse Town in the NPL East Division next season.

Brig were in real relegation danger a fortnight ago, but a wonderful run of four straight wins, including Saturday's 2-0 victory over Consett has kept them up with games to spare.

Remarkably, if they can beat Cleethorpes Town and Long Eaton United in their final two games, they could finish as high as seventh, just two places off the promotion play-offs.

Jack Boyle and Josh Grant scored the goal on Saturday to down Consett.

Farsley Celtic are fighting hard to avoid joining Guiseley, Sedge and Brig in the Northern Premier League.

Two Adam Clayton headers in the opening 30 minutes put them 2-0 up at Chester on Saturday, before Chester then had a man sent off.

But the hosts, who are third in the table, fought back superbly to earn a 2-2 draw.

Farsley are now two points clear of the drop with three games to go.

In the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, Eccleshill United ended their season with a 2-2 draw at Bottesford Town.

Bottesford needed a point to mathematically ensure their survival, and they achieved that, but they will have been disappointed not to win after going 2-0 ahead inside 16 minutes.

After that lacklustre start, Eccleshill grew into the game, dominating play for the rest of the half and pulling a goal back on 33 minutes through Matthew Sykes.

Immediately after the break, Luke Sidaway was brought down in the penalty area by the opposition keeper, and he dusted himself down and converted the spot kick.

An end-to-end second half followed, with both teams having chances, but neither side could net that decisive fifth goal, as the final game of the season for both sides ended all square.

Silsden ended their season on a high, narrowly claiming the crown of Bradford District top dogs, coming 11th, ahead of Eccleshill (15th), Thackley (14th) and Albion Sports (12th) in the division.

To overcome the latter, they had to beat Goole by five clear goals, and they did just that, winning 5-0 thanks to a Jack Normanton brace, an own goal, and late efforts from Lennon O’Grady and Ellis Hudson.

The heavy defeat mathematically confirmed Goole’s relegation alongside Yorkshire Amateur.

Finally, Steeton ended their North West Counties Football League First Division North campaign with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at 10-man Atherton Laburnum Rovers.

That meant the Chevrons ended the season six points outside of the play-offs, but a seventh-placed finish, on 53 points, represents their best-ever season in semi-professional football.
