CAMPION are the Northern Counties East League Division One champions, winning the title in sensational style on Saturday.

The Red and Blacks destroyed their hosts Armthorpe Welfare 8-1, with Harrogate Railway Athletic only able to manage a 1-1 draw at home to lowly Parkgate.

That puts Campion 10 points clear of second-placed Railway with only three games left to go, meaning they can no longer be caught at the summit.

A sensational start from Campion saw Dan Illingworth and Patrick Sykes put them 2-0 up in the opening five minutes.

Armthorpe halved the deficit just before the break, but Campion responded almost immediately through captain Aidan Kirby.

Stevie Crawford put the visitors 4-1 up just after the break, and when Armthorpe had a man dismissed for an off-the-ball challenge on the hour mark, the game was over as a contest.

But Campion showed no mercy to their 10-man hosts, as late braces from Ash Flynn and Nicky Boshell helped them to a thumping victory.

And with good news coming from Harrogate, it ended up being the perfect afternoon for the Red and Blacks.

In the NCEL Premier Division, where Campion are expected to ply their trade next season, Eccleshill United are now officially safe.

They drew 1-1 at home against Frickey Athletic, while Goole were thrashed 4-0 by Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

That means second-bottom Goole are now 11 points behind Eccleshill with three games to go.

Yorkshire Amateur are already relegated, but Goole can still escape, as they attempt to catch Botesford Town and Frickley.

Albion Sports' brilliant eight-game unbeaten run came to an end in emphatic fashion, as they were crushed 6-1 at Winterton Rangers.

A first-half red card for keeper George McMahon left Albion with no chance, with Winterton now looking odds-on to finish second, in the sole promotion play-off spot.

Thackley, who can no longer finish ahead of Albion, were also thumped on the road at a top side.

They lost 5-0 at fourth-placed Penistone Church, with George Green sent off for a second bookable offence when his side were already three goals behind.

Silsden drew 1-1 at Maltby Main, moving them three points behind Albion in the battle to finish as the Bradford District's top dogs in the division.

Steeton can realistically wave goodbye to promotion from the North West Counties Football League First Division North now.

Their 2-1 home defeat to fellow high-flyers Holker Old Boys on Saturday has left them seven points off the play-offs with only three games to go.

Brighouse Town's game at Cleethorpes Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, leaving them outside of the relegation play-off spots on goal difference only.

Liversedge are six points off safety in the NPL Premier Division, but with two games in hand, after losing 2-0 at home to Matlock Town.

Mid-table Guiseley lost 2-0 at Ashton United, and had Benjamin Smales-Braithwaite sent off late on for stopping a home counter-attack.

Finally, Farsley Celtic remain a point clear of the National League North relegation zone, despite a 1-0 home defeat to Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.
