ALBION Sports continued their impressive form on Saturday by securing a last-gasp 2-1 victory at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

And with Silsden's home game against Goole called off due to a waterlogged pitch, it means for the first time this season, Albion are the Bradford District's highest-placed team in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

They almost made the perfect start to Non-League Day, as Hemsworth's Adam Wilson inadvertently headed a cross on to his own post.

But the visitors went behind to a Ben Gelder goal just before the half-hour mark.

Reece Kral flicked the ball around his man on the edge of the box, putting Gelder in one-on-one to finish nicely.

But Hemsworth gifted Albion an equaliser when Harry Viggars lost the ball on the edge of his own box.

The away side's new signing Lewis Waddington, formerly of Thackley, then proceeded to beat his man and slotted home an equaliser on 40 minutes.

Hemsworth's Nash Connolly almost gave his side the lead once again after an hour, cutting inside but hitting the post with his effort.

Instead it was Albion who took home the three points, as Fox fired a wonder strike beyond home keeper Greg Squire in stoppage-time, marking his return from injury in fine style.

With Eccleshill not playing like Silsden, Thackley were the only other Bradford District team in action.

They played superbly at home to leaders North Ferriby, hitting the woodwork three times and having a goal controversially ruled out following a scramble at a corner.

In the end, Joshua Dennett won the game for North Ferriby, tapping home the winner at the back post a minute before the interval.

The three points, combined with second-placed Winterton Rangers only drawing 0-0 at their fellow high-flyers Emley, mean North Ferriby are now deservedly confirmed as champions.

Aidan Kirby, Patrick Sykes and Aidan Day were on target for NCEL Division One leaders Campion in their 3-0 home win over Swallownest.

Nearest challengers Harrogate Railway Athletic lost 2-0 at third-placed Rossington Main, with the hosts moving up to second in the process.

Rossington are nine points behind Campion with two games to go, and though Harrogate have another five games to play, they now sit 11 points behind their Bradford rivals.

Steeton still have a slim chance of making the North West Counties Football League First Division North play-offs, but are now nine points off the top five after their game at Euxton Villa was called off by a waterlogged pitch.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, Brighouse Town are only out of the relegation play-offs on goal difference after being thumped 6-0 at home by runaway champions Worksop Town.

Liversedge are still seven points off safety in the NPL Premier Division, but with three games in hand, after losing 3-1 at Warrington Town.

Divisional rivals Guiseley can wave goodbye to the play-offs after a poor 1-0 home defeat to rock-bottom Belper Town.

Finally, Farsley Celtic moved out of the National League North relegation zone, Frank Mulhern’s dramatic injury-time equaliser securing them a 1-1 draw at home to Peterborough Sports.
