LIVERSEDGE were involved in a fiery game at relegation rivals Marske United last night, but the 2-2 draw did not really do either side any favours.

That being said, Sedge will be far happier with the point, given they were 2-0 down and had two players sent off.

They also had manager Jonathan Rimmington dismissed as the tension boiled over on the sidelines too, but they survived the final 15 minutes with nine men to claim a share of the spoils.

Sedge are now seven points from safety in the Northern Premier League Premier Division with three games in hand, with Marske three points from safety with two games in hand.

These two sides know each other well, after last year's titanic title tussle between the pair in the NPL East Division saw Sedge go up as champions, with Marske eventually promoted via the play-offs.

Both have found life much tougher this season but survival is still a realistic goal for the pair.

That led to a ferocious game up in the North-East last night.

Sedge dominated the first half, having a goal ruled out for offside and forcing several fine saves out of Marske stopper Nathan Harker.

But it was the home side who led at the break, courtesy of a superb Josh MacDonald volley.

It got worse for the visitors six minutes into the second half.

They failed to deal with a corner, and Aaron Cunningham turned home the rebound after Patrick Boyes had saved Adam Boyes' initial effort.

Connor Smythe was booked for Sedge moments before the goal, with team-mate Joe Walton quickly following him into the referee's notebook.

But the latter was soon celebrating, halving the deficit by turning a corner home from close range.

Marske were incensed when Smythe was extremely fortunate to escape a second yellow card moments later, with Rimmington wisely substituting the player off immediately afterwards.

Midway through the second half, Sedge were level when Marske's George Horbury turned a cross from the right into his own net.

Danny Ellis was then booked for the visitors, before they had Nicholas Walker sent off for an aggressive reaction to barracking from the home supporters.

Josh Barrett was sent off a few minutes later for a deliberate handball that stopped Adam Boyes racing through on goal.

An angry, unhappy Rimmington was dismissed too, while amid the chaos, young Bradford City loanee Dylan Youmbi came on for his Marske debut.

The home side struggled to fashion chances against nine men, but Sedge did have to clear a last-gasp corner off the line in order to claim their point.

Campion had no such drama, and the Northern Counties East League Division One leaders won 5-2 at Glasshoughton Welfare to keep their lead at the summit at eight points.

Patrick Sykes and Marcus Day put them 2-0 up at the break, before two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half from Aidan Day put the visitors on easy street.

Nathan Perks scored twice late on for Glasshoughton to at least give them something to take away from the game, with those goals sandwiching one from Campion’s Ash Flynn.

It was a bad night for our sides in the NCEL Premier Division though.

Eccleshill went ahead through Devonte Morton at home to Barton Town, but the visitors scored twice late on to secure a 2-1 win.

If the Eagles’ near-neighbours Silsden beat second-bottom Goole on Saturday though, Ryan Toulson’s side will officially have avoided relegation.

The Cobbydalers go into that game looking to end an eight-match winless run, which continued last night with a 4-1 home defeat to Hallam, the 12th-placed hosts having two players sent off.

Thackley were outplayed in their mid-table clash at home to Knaresborough Town, and deservedly lost 3-0.

Finally, Farsley Celtic remain in the National League North relegation zone on goal difference only, after they enjoyed a superb 3-1 home win over fifth-placed Darlington last night.
